The Italian Horror Blog-a-thon Returns!

When: October 26-31
Where: Here!
What to write about: Anything from Giallo to Zombies to bad knock-offs of more popular movies to really bad Exploitation flicks...as long as it's horror and from Italy, it meets the criteria for this blog-a-thon.

More details and banners after the break...

Hello all,

Well, it's that time of the year again where all movie-themed blogs get a little spookier and turn their critical eyes towards the scarier side of film. I'm extending another invitation to all of you to once again participate in the Italian Horror Blog-a-thon here at Hugo Stiglitz Makes Movies. There's still so much to cover, and I was thrilled with turnout last year. Oh, not because it brought hits to the blog, but because it allowed me to introduce myself to some wonderful, inspired new blogs and to meet some new people.  I hope to see some of you return with more outstanding entries this year.

If you're wondering what you can write about, and don't want to duplicate something from last year (or if you want some viewing suggestions), you can click here.

So, if you're interested here's some suggestions:

- Please link to this on your site and post the banners below. The banners aren't much, but dammit I tried!
- Please  post any links to articles in the designated links post (this will appear the first day of the blog-a-thon)
- Finally, it wouldn't be a bad idea to post your interest in the comments section of this post and to include what movie you might want to cover. Not that people can't write about the same movie (please do!), but it may lead someone to seeking something more obscure.

I'll be posting another reminder on the blog in a few weeks, so start thinking about what you want to cover.

Let's have fun with this, and I hope to hear from you all soon!

P.S. This is also the not-so-annual 2nd Italian Horror Blog-a-thon...I made these banners last year when I had good intentions of doing this before school and real life derailed those plans; so yes, some of the banners say "2nd" annual, and I realize it's a bit of cheat.

  1. Sweet -- I am in! I'll get a banner up today. The banners are nice by the way, seriously.

I will post my intent later, I have to think about this for a couple of days.

  3. So cool that you're doing this again, Kevin. Count me in! I have already post one of your banner's on my blog and I think I will tackle Argento's PHENOMENA.

  4. I'll be sure to make time for this as I missed out last year. 2 years back I did Welcome to Spring Break, so I'll be sure to do something in that vein for this year as well.

  5. Count me in for one, maybe 2. The 'maybe' 2 is a giallo type film but it's a French production so that's why I'll make sure to do the other to meet your criteria.

    Can't wait!

  6. I decided on Orgasmo. And now I'll finally get a post about the blogathon up! Sorry it's late, this is a very wacky month for me.

  7. Good choice, J.D. I'm looking forward to it!

Troy, don't feel bad...I didn't do one last year. I think you should definitely do something along the lines of VIRUS.

Stacia, I look forward to your entry. I haven't seen that particular Lenzi before.

    Thanks for the interest, everyone!

  9. I'm going to post a review of Ruggero Deodato's BODY COUNT (aka CAMPING DEL TERRORE, aka more...), which is an Italian horror, but filmed in the US. I'll let you know when I'm posting it and such. Thanks.

  10. Count me in, and there'll definitely be some sidebar space for the banner on Agitation.

I'm thinking something by Fulci or Deodato. I'll let you know when I've stopped dithering and made my mind up!

  11. Thomas: Welcome and I look forward to your entry!

Neil: Glad you stopped by! I was hoping you would do an entry for this year's blog-a-thon. Looking forward to it!

  12. And I've even made my mind up about which one: Fulci's 'The Beyond'.

  13. Okay -- So Virus shall be done (just finished watching it again -- it should not be terribly hard to write about). I tried to watch another bad Lenzi ala Welcome to Spring Break, but neither Black Demons nor Ghosthouse aren't quite awful enough to get enough material out of them.

Anyways, I did just realize that even though you didn't do this last year, we did write all those recaps up for the Wonders in the Dark thing, so I'll probably just repost a few of those as well during the week.

  14. Great! I have a Cannibal Holocaust review waiting just for this awesome Blog-A-Thon! I can't wait to read all the entries!

  15. Neil: Good choice! Easily in my top 5 for Italian horror movies.

Troy: Oh good. VIRUS! I have something really special planned for the blog-a-thon...something so awful I can't believe I made it all the way through it myself.

Michael: Cool. Thanks for wanting to contribute. I look forward to you tackling such a seminal Italian horror film.

  16. Sweet... I have a three in one Zombi DVD I haven't watched yet just for this sort of occasion! Maybe Zombie Holocaust?

  17. Aaron:

Sounds good! That's a great choice. I love the alternate title to ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST: DR. BUTCHER M.D.!!

  18. Hi Kevin. I have a new blog that's off to a bit of a slow start, but I'd love to kick it back into gear by participating in your blog-a-thon! I'll plan on writing a piece on Antonio Margheriti's CANNIBAL APOCALYPSE and possibly something else to be announced later. Sound good?

  19. Good choice, Michael. I'll be writing about that one, too. I just re-watched the other day. Great stuff. I look forward to checking out your blog and reading your piece!

  20. Would love to particpate if you'll have me. Mark Micro-Brewed Reviews down for Luigi Cozzi's L'assassino è costretto ad uccidere ancora a/k/a The Killer Must Kill Again. I'll get a post up to help spread the word on the bloggo later tonight. Thanks!

  22. If it's not already been spoken for, I'd like to do Michele Soavi's
    Cemetery Man.

  23. Great!

I am a Bava man myself, and would thus like to do a post on Bava's Golden Period (mid 1960's for those unaware) and the films he did during this time (Black Sabbath, Blood and Black Lace, Girl Who Knew Too Much).

  24. Barry: Thanks for stopping by! Great choice. I love Soavi.

Kevyn: Great! I look forward to reading your contribution.

  25. I found out at the last minute (entirely my fault) that my copy of Orgasmo has some technical issues, so I'm going to do a Masters of Horror episode called "Jenifer" instead. I haven't seen it yet but it comes highly recommended by my husband, plus it's Argento, so I'll give it a whirl.
