Keach's character is such an oddball but he's also pretty darn likable. thanks for bringing my attention back to this.

and now, SLUGS. Love that you finally got to see this one and are in agreement of its charms. My friend Bob and I used to make clip tapes (that were fun activities highlighting our favorite funny/absurd clips), and on one he compiled in a row all the quick shots of that blue station wagon. It sounds strange but seen in a row, it's quite freakin' funny. oh and the line "get sheriff reese on the phone I want him here now" "there's a killer mutant slug in the cities water... and not only that..." and "I just need to recharge my batteries.." are all on there too. A really great shlock classic. Almost unequaled. 'Trolls 2' is the best bad movie ever? I don't think so. And to think this director did 'Slugs' and 'Pieces', what an auteur.

I've never seen 'Dead and Buried' (and have no interest in seeing TCM 2 again), so it seems after your review here I'll have to do that.Jamienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8785859730868628316.post-16911037975930514882010-07-23T20:41:26.729-07:002010-07-23T20:41:26.729-07:00The beat goes on Kevin. It's great to see the first no-holds-barred estimation of SLUGS, as one of those "so bad it's good" affairs. Reminds me of Ed Wood Jr.'s films and some of those campy 50's horrors. As it is I agree with you on THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, and for precisely the same reasons, though of course I am always terrified by the original, and like it way more than you. I agree with you that Hopper's skills were NOT as a filmmaker. DEAD AND BURIED of course, is easily the very best of this lot.Sam Julianonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8785859730868628316.post-16305311214090400642010-07-23T13:24:22.868-07:002010-07-23T13:24:22.868-07:00Adam:

That whole scene in the radio station just draaaags, and Hooper doesn't know when to say enough is enough already. I appreciate what he's doing with the Reagan thing, but it never made more do more than chuckle at the idea of it...the execution was just way off for me.

Thanks for stopping by!Kevin J. I love how tongue-in-cheek it is, how Dreyton Sawyer and the rest of the Leatherface family are basically portrayed as Reaganist capitalists who will do anything for good business. And as you said, Dennis Hopper is awesome: "I'M GONNA BRING IT ALL DOWN!!!!!"

I'm a fan of Tobe Hooper, though, and I like what I've seen. The next time Eaten Alive comes on IFC, I'm recording the whole thing.
